This project was undertaken as a controlled experiment to quantify the benefits of flexible working. It involved three phases: plotting the productivity and efficiency of the building in its existing state; working out proposals for both building change and systems change and analysing the effects of these changes 6 months later on. The building looked at was a small self-contained ‘bungalow’ on Kelvin Campus at West of Scotland Science Park, built in very conventional fashion with rooms for every different function. haa design’s proposals opened out the space at the same time as providing new facilities for the different types of work mode. The image was changed fairly radically and the amount of usable space upgraded by 15%. The result of questionnaires showed a resounding 97% generally in favour of the new arrangement and estimated 30% in improved productivity.
