COSLA’s original request
was for more space. With an alternative space planning
strategy haa design were able to show
that not only did COSLA have sufficient space but that
it could be reconfigured in such a way to make much of
it revenue earning. Meeting rooms were collected
together and combined with catering facilities to make
a small conference centre, available to COSLA’s own
staff and also to members of the public. The rest
of the project was undertaken to a minimal budget. An
assortment of filing systems was tidied up and used as
a form of wall by enclosing the cabinets in a “duffle
coat” of cladding panels, the cheap carpet was improved
by adding “cut-ins” of bright, better quality
carpet. The image was changed from local authority
brown to a startling combination of purple and yellow! |
