Equinox is a shared services
company formed as a joint venture between Lancaster plc
and Ernst & Young to provide back office accounting
and procurement facilities to car dealerships throughout
the UK. The project consisted of the fit-out of a
new building in a business park on the outskirts of Newcastle
still lacking in social and other support facilities. The
problem was therefore to provide a strategy for growth
and some sense of community for those first recruited
to join the new organisation. Training facilities
are located in an informal and flexible fashion on the
ground floor and the corner joining each wing of the upper
floors is filled in to form a break-out space with views
over the landscaped courtyard. Office space is organised
on a very simple basis but with close attention to the
location of services to minimise cost and disruption as
the organisation changes and grows. |
