Learning Teaching Scotland

LTS’s move to ‘The Optima’ was an opportunity to improve department adjacencies and staff interaction.  It also represented a radical move from the ‘characterful’ but inefficient convent buildings which had formed their home for many years.  As such the design required to be flexible and efficient, but also supportive of the creativity and individuality which was critical to the organisation.  The design concept focused therefore on circulation areas and how the generally open plan spaces could be structured so as to provide places for varying work modes, ranging from group work, to quiet study, to formal meetings and presentations.  The offices are light, lively and creative.  They are also flexible, having accommodated a full organisational change even before the work was finished.  Although informal in feel the building is highly sophisticated technologically, enabling information to be accessed anywhere and everywhere.
