Lord Todd Bar, University of Strathclyde
haa design were asked to work with Strathclyde University Catering Dept in a refurbishment of the University’s Todd Bar. The bar, located in a new building, was elegant but lacked atmosphere. It was also losing out to city venues such as Starbucks or the more trendy pubs. The University also had limited funds for a makeover. haa design’s solution was to change the lighting with a combination of uplighting and pendants, change the colour scheme and provide a mix of stylish but durable new furniture. haa design also derived a theme for cost effective artwork building on the graphics of Scots personalities which already existed. Like all pub jobs the work had to take place rapidly with a minimum downtime. It also had to steer that narrow course between being practical and stylish. The result seems to have been successful.
