Maclay Murray & Spens Bothwell Street, Glasgow

This project was the continuation of a larger project of upgrading and refurbishment where standards and strategies set in Maclay’s head office building required to be interpreted and transferred.  The ‘new’ building was in fact ‘old’ or built in 1982 to developer standards which fell somewhat short of what might be anticipated today.  In particular a minimal floor void and ceiling void meant that services could only be threaded through the space with extreme difficulty.  This called for flood wiring and a aesthetic which favoured complicated areas of dropped ceiling to contain ventilation ductwork as it found its way between training rooms and the vertical risers.
